When Should You Start Planning a 2028 Wedding?

Getting married in 2028? You might be wondering whether you need to be planning already. The short answer is: you have time, but it's never too early to start looking.
If you've already got an idea of the season, guest list or type of wedding you'd like, starting early gives you more choice, particularly when it comes to finding a venue and securing your preferred date. Here's our guide to what you might want to think about, without turning your engagement into one very long to-do list.
Start with the things that matter most
Before getting caught up in flowers, stationery and seating plans, think about the bigger picture...
How many people do you want there?
What sort of atmosphere are you hoping for?
Do you want a formal wedding or something more relaxed?
Would you like everyone to stay together?
And do you want your wedding to be one day, or a whole weekend?
These decisions will help you work out what you're actually looking for when you start visiting venues.
It's also worth thinking about the season. A spring wedding will feel very different to an autumn celebration, and your choice of date can influence everything from your flowers and colours to how much time you can spend outside.

When should you book your venue?
Your venue is one of the first things we'd recommend looking at. If you have your heart set on a particular place or a popular summer Saturday, it's worth getting in touch sooner rather than later. But don't worry if you're still figuring things out, being flexible with your date or considering a weekday can open up more options.
When you visit somewhere, look beyond how it looks in photographs. Think about how the day will actually work...
Where will everyone stay?
Can you choose your own suppliers?
How much time will you have at the venue?
What happens if it rains?
And will the space work for the sort of celebration you're imagining?
These are often more important than the colour of the chairs or whether the venue has the perfect Instagram feed.

How long do you want your wedding to last?
This is something that's worth considering early, particularly if you're looking at venues that offer accommodation. A wedding doesn't have to start when the ceremony begins and finish the following morning.
At Heathy Lea, you get the whole venue for the entire weekend, so you can make more of an occasion of it.
Friday to Monday: a complete wedding weekend
Our full wedding weekend gives you Friday to Monday at Heathy Lea...
Arrive from midday on Friday, get settled in and welcome your guests before the wedding itself. Saturday is the big day, then Sunday gives everyone time to relax, catch up and enjoy being together before heading home on Monday morning.
It's a lovely option if you want your wedding to feel like a proper weekend away rather than one day that disappears in a flash.

2026 and 2027: Start bringing the details together
Once you've chosen your venue and date, you can start thinking about the details. This is when you'll probably want to book your key suppliers, particularly photographers and videographers who can get booked up well in advance. Then you can start having fun with the rest.
Think about your 2028 wedding colours, flowers, food, music and styling. You might have a very clear idea already, or you might be saving inspiration from absolutely everywhere. You don't need to follow a particular theme either. A countryside setting might inspire natural colours and seasonal flowers, while an autumn wedding could lend itself to warmer, richer tones. The important thing is choosing things you actually like.

What could be trending in 2028?
Nobody knows exactly what the big wedding trends of 2028 will be, but some things already seem to be changing. Couples are increasingly looking for weddings that feel personal rather than overly traditional. Longer celebrations, outdoor spaces, relaxed food and drink, documentary-style photography and meaningful details are all becoming more popular, and we suspect that will continue. That being said, there's no need to choose your wedding colours or theme based on what's predicted to be fashionable in 2028. If you love it, go for it!

Give your guests plenty of notice
Once you've got your date and venue, let your guests know. This is particularly important if you're planning a wedding weekend or have friends and family travelling from further away. A save-the-date gives everyone plenty of time to arrange time off work, travel and accommodation. Plus, if your guests are staying with you, they'll appreciate knowing what the weekend will look like.
By 2028, it's time to enjoy it
By the time your wedding year arrives, the big decisions should be behind you - you'll be finalising guest numbers, menus, timings, seating plans and those last little details. Then it's time to stop planning and start enjoying. If you've chosen a longer celebration, you'll have the added bonus of arriving before the wedding day, settling in with your favourite people and having time to actually take it all in.
