Chatsworth Christmas Market 2026: Your Plan for a Perfect Festive Visit

The lights are going up, the stalls are being built and the Derbyshire frost is on its way. The Chatsworth Christmas Market returns this November, and if you're thinking of visiting, a little planning goes a long way. Here's everything you need to know for 2026, from dates and tickets to the best time to arrive, plus a few local tips from the people who live just across the park.
What's new at Chatsworth this Christmas
This year, Chatsworth is inviting visitors to step inside the Twelve Days of Christmas. The house is decorated around the much-loved carol, with Chatsworth's new design partner, Orpheo, creating projections and animations along the trail, including the six geese a-laying in the Great Chamber. The market itself keeps everything people love about it: more than 100 stalls selling gifts, decorations, local produce and festive food and drink, set on Lodge Hill between the Stables and the House.
Key dates for 2026
Christmas Market: 7 November to 13 December 2026
Christmas at Chatsworth (house, garden and light trail): 7 November 2026 to 3 January 2027
One thing to note if you're planning a later visit: Christmas at Chatsworth tickets only include market access if you visit on or before 13 December. The market closes that day, so if the market is the main attraction, aim for November or early December.
Choosing the right ticket
Entry to the market itself is free, but parking charges apply and all parking must be booked in advance, including for Friends and pass holders. Your options are broadly:
Market parking ticket (all day or after 3pm): includes access to the market. The after-3pm slot is a lovely choice if you'd like twinkling lights and a cosier feel.
Christmas in the Garden ticket: garden, market and parking.
Christmas at Chatsworth ticket: the decorated house, garden and light trail, farmyard and playground, parking and the market (on market dates).
By bus, bike or on foot: no parking ticket needed, and arriving by public bus means free entry to the market. There is also a market park and ride service, but those tickets cover the bus only.
Our tip: car park tickets for peak weekends go quickly, so book as soon as you know your dates.
Inside Christmas at Chatsworth: house, garden and farmyard
A Christmas at Chatsworth ticket covers far more than the market. It includes the decorated house, the garden light trail, the farmyard and adventure playground, and parking for one vehicle, plus market access if you visit on or before 13 December. Here’s what to expect from each part.
The decorated house
This year’s Twelve Days of Christmas theme runs through the house. Orpheo, Chatsworth’s new design partner, is creating projections and animations along the route, including the six geese a-laying in the Great Chamber. In recent years the Christmas route has taken in rooms such as the Painted Hall, the Chapel, the Great Dining Room and the Sculpture Gallery, so expect some of the grandest spaces on the estate to be dressed for the season.
Our tip: check your ticket for any timed entry, and aim for mid-afternoon. You can enjoy the house in daylight, then step straight into the garden as the lights come on.

The garden light trail
The story continues outdoors with a new trail of light installations designed around the garden’s landscape and architecture. Flora’s Temple, the Rock Garden and the Maze are all part of this year’s route. In previous years the Cascade and the Willow Tree Fountain have also been lit, so it’s worth looking out for familiar landmarks in new light.
The trail is at its best from dusk, so check the garden’s closing time and leave yourself plenty of time to walk the whole route. Paths can be damp underfoot in November and December, so sturdy, waterproof footwear is a good idea.

The farmyard and adventure playground
The farmyard is included with your Christmas at Chatsworth ticket and is a welcome stop if you’re visiting with children. There’s a gift shop and takeaway café on the lower yard serving snacks and hot drinks, and the adventure playground is a good way to burn off some energy between the house and the market.
In recent Decembers, Chatsworth has also run Storytime with Father Christmas at the farmyard. Dates and details for 2026 sessions can be found on the Chatsworth events page, and they tend to need booking.
Gift shops and the Farm Shop
Chatsworth’s gift shops at the Stables and the Orangery stock curated festive gifts, decorations and cards. For food gifts, head to Chatsworth Farm Shop (DE45 1UF) in nearby Pilsley. In recent years it has opened a Christmas marquee full of mince pies, crackers, cards and hampers, alongside seasonal local produce. Chatsworth Kitchen at Peak Shopping Village in Rowsley is another good stop. If you’re making an evening of it, the Pilsley and Beeley Inn's are right on your way.
Dining, workshops and special events
Chatsworth has run Festive Dining in the Cavendish Resturant on selected dates from mid-November to late December, serving locally sourced seasonal lunches and dinners. Pre-booking is essential. Creative workshops such as wreath making, festive printmaking and willow sculpture have also been popular additions. The 2026 programme is still being released, so check chatsworth.org/christmas for the latest dates and availability.

A sample day at Chatsworth
Arrive around 10am and browse the market while the stalls are quieter.
Stop for lunch at the market, the farmyard café or the Cavendish.
Visit the farmyard and playground if you’re with children.
Enter the decorated house in the mid-afternoon.
Walk the garden light trail as dusk falls.
Stroll back across the park to Heathy Lea and put your feet up.
When to go
The market is open Monday to Thursday, 10am to 5:30pm, and Friday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm.
If you can, visit on a weekday. The paths are quieter, queues for food are shorter and you'll have more space to browse. On busy weekends, arriving at 10am gives you first pick of the stalls and an easier arrival.
What to eat, drink and buy
Expect mulled wine, hot chocolate, burgers, sausages, hot pork rolls, pancakes and churros, with live music adding to the atmosphere. It's a great place to start your gift list, with handmade crafts, tree decorations and local produce that you won't find on the high street. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome at the market too.
Bring a sturdy reusable bag, and a little cash for smaller stalls, just in case.

Getting there and what to wear
The estate's postcode for satnavs is DE45 1PP. If you'd rather leave the car behind, you can walk in from Baslow through the winter countryside, which takes around 20 to 30 minutes. Wrap up warmly, wear waterproof footwear that's comfortable for walking, and dress in layers. You'll spend more time outdoors than you expect.
Make an evening of it
When you've finished browsing, the area has some excellent places to warm up. The Pilsley Inn and the Beeley Inn both offer hearty food and local ales in cosy surroundings, and Bakewell's independent shops are well worth a visit for extra gifts. Tables fill up quickly in the run-up to Christmas, so book ahead.
Stay close to the festivities at Heathy Lea
The best way to enjoy Chatsworth at Christmas is to stay close enough to take your time. Heathy Lea is just a short walk across the park from the market, so you can spend the day exploring, head back to put your feet up, and return for the light trail or an early-evening drink without worrying about the drive home. Check our availability for a festive weekend break, as November and December dates book up fast.

We hope to see you this Christmas, and we can't wait to welcome you to the Peak District.
