Nestled in the heart of the Peak District, Heathy Lea offers a unique wedding venue with exclusive accommodation, making it perfect for couples dreaming of a full weekend celebration. Mariusz and Mattie chose Heathy Lea for its breathtaking surroundings, private grounds, and the ability to host all of their family and friends on site. From a Friday welcome dinner to a Sunday Poprawiny BBQ, their three-day wedding weekend perfectly showcased what makes Heathy Lea so special for couples seeking an unforgettable Peak District wedding experience.

About the Couple

Who are you?

Mariusz and Mattie

How did you meet, and what’s your story in a nutshell?

We met at university and were friends for 5 years before Maz persuaded Mattie to go on “just one date”… another 6 years later we were married!

Choosing Heathy Lea

What made you choose Heathy Lea as your wedding venue?

We chose Heathy Lea because it ticked all of our boxes: somewhere in the beautiful Peak District, somewhere we could have to ourselves for a whole weekend and somewhere we could host our family and friends on site!

Mattie grew up in Derbyshire and had always wanted to get married in the Peak District. The beautiful rolling hills on the Chatsworth estate were the perfect backdrop to our weekend.

Did you always want a weekend-long celebration, and if so, why?

We always knew we would have a weekend-long celebration because Maz is third generation Polish and a three day event is tradition in Polish culture. We really made the most of it - we had a welcome dinner for family and close friends on Friday, the wedding on Saturday and then “Poprawiny” on Sunday (which is Polish tradition and translates as the “improvement”) where we had a BBQ and another live band.

The Wedding Weekend

Friday Night Welcome

How did you and your guests kick off the celebrations on Friday night?

Maz’s parents put on a welcome dinner for our immediate family and close friends. We set up a table on the top lawn and Mattie’s maid of honour and bridesmaid decorated. We had a huge paella and tapas. It was amazing.

How did it feel to have everyone together the night before the wedding?

It was so special to be able to kick the weekend off and to extend the celebrations.

The Wedding Day

What was your favourite moment of the day?

There are too many to choose!!

How did you use the accommodation and outdoor spaces at Heathy Lea?

Mattie, her 8 (!!) bridesmaids, 2 hairdresser and 2 MUAs took over Keeper’s Cottage whilst the rest of our guest on site spent the morning enjoying the grounds and getting ready at their leisure.

We used the top lawn for our welcome drinks and canapés and we had a marquee from Green Farm on the bottom lawn. Boelle Events and Poppy Scout we transformed the space for us, although it’s already pretty beautiful!

Sunday Celebrations

How did you spend the Sunday after the wedding?

We invited all (yes, all) of our guest back to Heathy Lea for a BBQ on Sunday. We had more drinks and more food and another live band.

What was the atmosphere like compared to the wedding day?

The atmosphere felt homely and relaxed all weekend!

The Wedding Style & Details

How did you decorate your wedding setting?

We entrusted the styling to Boelle Events and the flowers to Poppy Scout. They hit our briefs perfectly. The decor was more beautiful than we could ever have imagined!

The Celebrations

How did you and your guests enjoy the grounds and setting at Heathy Lea?

Our guests loved staying at Heathy Lea. So many of them made the most of the surroundings by going for a walk over to Chatsworth!

Advice and Inspiration

What advice would you give to couples planning a wedding at Heathy Lea?

If you’ve booked with any of Sally and James’ recommended suppliers, just relax. They are amazing and will take such good care of you so that you can relax and enjoy!

Any tips for making the most of a full wedding weekend?

Make use different areas for different moments! The wedding day was primarily on the bottom lawn so we made the most of the top lawn on Friday and Sunday, and even sprawled out onto the field on Sunday!

Which suppliers did you work with?

How do you feel when you look back on your wedding now?

We feel like it could not have been more perfect.

Is there anything else that you'd like to add?

Sally and James - we can never thank you enough for everything you did for us! Xx
