A Night on Us: Winter Escapes at Heathy Lea Shepherd’s Huts
There’s something special about the Peak District in winter. The crowds thin out, the air turns crisp, the nights draw in and the stars come out in force. If you’ve been dreaming of a quiet getaway, we’d love to help you make it happen, with a night on us.
Heathy Lea sits right on the doorstep of Chatsworth House and Estate. Our garden gates open directly onto the parkland, so your stay begins with a wander through one of the most beautiful landscapes in Derbyshire.

Your free night’s stay
Book a stay in one of our Shepherd’s Huts between Monday 4 January and Monday 22 March 2027 and enjoy a complimentary night. If you’re staying at the weekend, use code 3for2 at checkout. For Monday to Friday stays, use 4for3. The offer doesn’t apply between Friday 13 February and Monday 22 February, so do keep that in mind when you’re choosing your dates.
If your plans are flexible, a midweek stay is a lovely way to see the park at its quietest.
Cosy by design
Our Shepherd’s Huts are made for slowing down. Each has a king-size bed, a well-appointed kitchen and a bathroom, and most have a log-burning stove to keep things toasty on chilly evenings. Step outside and you’ll find your own private patio and fire pit, which make the perfect spot for star gazing at any time of year. Pack a blanket, pour yourself something warm and look up.
Finding your hut
Each hut has its own character, so here’s a little about them...
Fallow is set in woodland with views over Chatsworth Park. Its cosy layout makes it ideal for a quiet retreat for one or two.

Oak Tree overlooks one of the site’s oldest trees. Its private patio is perfect for slow mornings and quiet afternoons watching the sun set over the park.

Woodlands is our secluded hut, and it welcomes small dogs, so your four-legged friend can join in the fun.

Stag sits on the edge of the grounds with uninterrupted views across the park. Set off early for a walk and you might meet the resident red and fallow deer.

Mr McGregor’s Garden is our family hut, sleeping four in a king-size bed and bunk beds. A private walled garden and outside dining area make it ideal for shared meals and evening games.

Straight out onto the parkland
This is our favourite part. Open the garden gate and you’re on Chatsworth Park, with miles of footpaths, rolling hills and open views right there. There’s no car park to find and no queue to join. Wander over to the house and gardens, or simply stroll with a flask of tea and see where the day takes you. Just wear sturdy, waterproof footwear, as winter walks are glorious but can be muddy.

A little further afield
When you’re ready to venture beyond the park, the villages nearby are full of charm. Baslow is within easy reach, and Bakewell’s independent shops are well worth a browse. For a hearty dinner after a day outdoors, the Pilsley Inn and Beeley Inn both serve good food and local ales in a cosy Derbyshire setting. Or stay in, pick up some local produce and cook a relaxed meal in your hut’s kitchen.

Winter at Heathy Lea is peaceful, atmospheric and entirely unhurried, with a free night to help you enjoy it a little longer. We’d love to welcome you.
